1. Who we are
Local Pins (localpins.net) sells curated KMZ map files as one-time digital downloads. For the purposes of data protection law, Local Pins is the data controller for the personal data described below. You can reach us at any time through the contact form.
2. What data we collect
- Orders — your email address and order details (product, price, status), so we can deliver your purchase and help you if something goes wrong.
- Contact form — your email address and message, so we can reply.
- Map requests — your email address and the map you asked for, so we can let you know when it’s available.
- Free sample downloads — no email address is required.
- Website usage data — see Cookies and analytics below.
We never ask for or store your card details — payment is handled entirely by our payment provider.
3. Why we process this data
- Orders — to perform the contract of sale: deliver your download link and provide support.
- Contact form — our legitimate interest in responding to your inquiry.
- Map requests — our legitimate interest in improving the catalog and letting you know when a map is ready.
- Website usage data — our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used, or your consent where the law requires it (see below).
4. Who we share it with
- Paddle — whichever is processing your payment. They receive what’s needed to charge you; we never see your full card details.
- Resend — our transactional email provider, used to send order confirmations, download links, and replies.
- Our hosting provider — runs the server that stores order and download-token records.
- Google Analytics — website usage analytics, only if you’ve accepted analytics cookies (see below).
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with anyone beyond what’s listed here.
5. Cookies and analytics
We show a cookie-consent banner to every visitor. Google Analytics (which sets cookies and collects usage data — pages visited, approximate location, device and browser information — processed by Google under its own privacy policy) only loads after you click “Accept” on that banner. If you decline, or haven’t answered yet, no analytics cookies are set and no data reaches Google.
Your choice is remembered for about 12 months. You can change it at any time via the “Manage cookies” link in the site footer. If you switch from Accept to Reject, Google Analytics stops loading on future visits, but any _ga/_gid cookies already set are not actively deleted — they expire on Google’s own schedule (_ga after about 2 years, _gid after about 24 hours).
You can also block or delete these cookies in your browser at any time — this won’t affect your ability to buy or download maps.
6. How long we keep data
- Order records — kept as long as needed for accounting and legal obligations, then deleted or anonymized.
- Contact-form messages — kept only as long as needed to resolve your inquiry.
- Map requests — kept until the map is published or you ask us to delete them.
- Download tokens — expire automatically 72 hours after purchase or after 5 downloads, whichever comes first. The underlying order record is kept per the rule above.
7. Your rights
If GDPR or a similar data protection law applies to you, you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected, or your data deleted;
- restrict or object to how we process it;
- receive a copy of it in a portable format;
- lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us through the contact form. We’ll respond within a reasonable time, and within any timeframe required by law.
8. International transfers
Some of the providers we use (for example Paddle, and Google Analytics if you’ve consented to analytics cookies) may process data outside the EU/EEA, including in the United States. Where that happens, it relies on the safeguards those providers put in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The version published on this page applies; by continuing to use the site or making a purchase, you accept the current version.
